I am Randall Wolgast, a software engineer living in Scottsdale, Arizona. In 2000 I moved out here from my hometown of Springfield, Ohio, and in 2005 I graduated with a bachelor's in software engineering from University of Advancing Technology. In 2005 I joined a team from school that developed The Citaga Project, an Unreal 2004 total conversion mod. We took the game to the 2006 Game Developers' Conference in San Jose, CA and got to demo the game for a lot of studios including Epic. My part was mostly GUI programming, and the project has been both challenging and a lot of fun because we've been pushing the Unreal engine to get it to do things it was never intended to do. My other pet project has been Scara, a dynamically-created, tile-based RPG. Items, monsters, quests, shops, cities, and entire areas are generated from scratch so it's a unique adventure each time. It uses a command-line interface with tile graphics so that the adventure can be dynamically adjusted without the constraints of complicated artwork and animations. It's a giant project and has many features in the works. There is a playable demo under the Games menu that shows the features implemented so far: players can explore areas, fight monsters, use items, cast spells, and interact with shopkeepers. I can be emailed at rswolgast@hotmail.com.
